Fernando Carpio is an Ecuadorian lawyer with extensive professional experience in international insurance, maritime law, contractual documentation, corporate risk and cross-border business operations.
His professional experience includes more than a decade working with international shipping companies, international insurers, P&I clubs, brokers, shipowners, financial institutions, foreign claims adjusters, and multinational companies. This experience has enabled him to develop a practical command of legal and business English, particularly in the analysis, review, and negotiation of contracts and technical documentation used in international transactions.
His experience in the maritime sector includes participation in the review and analysis of loan agreements and mortgages with European banks relating to the financing of the construction of oil tankers, as well as Memorandums of Agreement (MOAs) concerning the acquisition of second-hand vessels.
He has also participated in the review of agreements with foreign shipping companies for the joint operation of vessels and has advised on the drafting and review of bareboat charterparties, voyage charterparties and time charterparties, gaining practical familiarity with the contractual terminology and allocation of risks commonly used in international shipping transactions.
International Insurance Experience
His international insurance experience includes participation in the negotiation and placement of Protection & Indemnity (P&I) insurance with P&I Clubs based in the United Kingdom and Norway, as well as the management and analysis of marine insurance claims involving international insurers, P&I Clubs, brokers, surveyors and foreign claims professionals.
Beyond marine insurance, he has managed property, casualty and financial lines claims involving multinational companies, working with international insurers, brokers, adjusters and other professionals in English-speaking business environments.
Academic Specialization
His academic specialization includes a Postgraduate Diploma in Marine Insurance awarded by the World Maritime University (WMU), an international institution specializing in maritime education and training. The program was conducted entirely in English and further strengthened his knowledge of international marine insurance terminology, contractual structures and industry practice.
